In this research project we will investigate illumination and temperature conditions of the lunar polar surface. Of special interest will be the mapping of potential water-ice reservoirs near the poles. The work is based on laser altimeter data of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).

In the project Late Accretion onto Terrestrial Planets (TRR 170) we are working on two subprojects: first, we wish to obtain a full inventory of lunar impact basins. We will investigate the physical characteristics visible in the topography and the gravitational signature of the impact basins. The other focus is on understanding the long-term effects of the impact gardening process on the presence of impact melt of different ages at the near-surface of the Moon.

Each year in August the Perseid meteor shower can be observed in the night sky. There are regular campaigns for observing the meteor shower. By carrying out simultaneous measurements from two positions the trajectories of individual meteors can be calculated.
